Why transit buses need a camera system ?
Public transportation buses need camera systems primarily to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers while improving operational efficiency. In-vehicle cameras monitor passenger behavior in real time and provide evidence for disputes. Outside cameras, on the other hand, monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, especially the blind spots, to help drivers drive safely in complex traffic conditions and reduce accidents.
How many cameras should a bus be equipped with ?
A bus is usually equipped with 6 to 7 cameras, including inside view, rear view, front view and side view cameras, to monitor passenger activities inside the bus and the driving environment outside the bus. The inside view camera ensures safe boarding and alighting of passengers, the front view camera records road conditions ahead, and the side and rear view cameras monitor blind spots, especially when turning and backing up, to increase driving safety. These cameras not only record in real time and transmit to the on-board monitor, but also capture audio to provide all-around safety monitoring. The recorded video data can be used for after-action analysis to help deal with accidents and legal liabilities, ensuring the safe operation of buses and providing higher safety for passengers and drivers.
